Introduction
Our magnesium products are an excellent way of absorbing more magnesium into your body . . . safely with no side effects. They are also excellent for relieving sore, aching muscles, joints and stress.
Scientists have long known that magnesium is a critical player in cell metabolism, helping to transport other minerals across cell membranes and affecting cell mechanisms that control the activity of muscle and nerve cells. But as the scientists note, their research suggests that the cardiac muscle seems to be more sensitive to magnesium intake than skeletal muscle.
Magnesium, a mineral that is naturally present in water and foods in varying amounts. The U.S. RDA for magnesium is about 320 mg per day for women and more than 400 mg per day for men -- yet studies show that most people regularly take in about half of that. And now, new research reveals that this lack of magnesium may put your heart -- and your health -- at significant risk.
Research indicates that most people are lacking in magnesium and that many health issues are related to magnesium deficiency. Also, reduced levels of DHEA, known as the "youth hormone,” is also directly related to magnesium deficiency.
Magnesium Oil, Gel or Bath Flakes . . . Which to Choose?
Magnesium Bath Flakes are an enhancement to your Magnesium Bath. They are magnesium chloride hexahydrate. They are less effective for magnesium supplementation than the Oil (but still reaxing) in your bath, but together the Oil and the Flakes make a fabulously-healthy and relaxing bath.
Ingredients
Magnesium chloride hexahydrate from ancient sea beds, energetically activated. All natural sources. (Hexahydrate has extra oxygen atoms which were manipulated in a laboratory.)

Questions and Answers
Q: What's the difference between your magnesium products and Epson salts?
A:Our products are magnesium chloride, which is a form that is easily and quickly absorbed into the system . . . the safest way of magnesium supplementation. Epson Salts are made of magnesium sulfate.
Q: My sister-in-law and a good friend of mine both have Raynaud's Syndrome. I noted that in the newsletter I received today, you mentioned magnesium as helping with the symptoms. Could you please tell me exactly which products they need to use and how often? I will pass this along to them posthaste. Thanks for all you do. D.D., FL
A: I asked Claudia French, R.N, and assistant director of the IMVA. Here is her response.
Yes, Magnesium should definitely be of some help both, with the pain and dilating the blood vessels, for which magnesium is known. I'll dig up the references and send them along to you. Soaking in a bath with the Magnesium Oil or rubbing the Oil or Gel on should help greatly as a local and systemic treatment. Claudia

The Wonders of Magnesium
Dr. Carolyn Dean
When it comes to building healthy bones, magnesium is as important as calcium and vitamin D!
Knowing the vast benefits that magnesium confers on our bodies, I’ve always wanted to report on this remarkable mineral . . . and now the time has come!
I was first introduced to the wonders of magnesium during my obstetrical training where I saw, up close and personal, how effective magnesium sulfate was in preventing seizures and restoring normal blood pressure in pregnant women suffering from toxemia.
Years later, I often gave my patients magnesium intravenously (IV) (along with a series of other vitamins) as part of an IV mix known as Meyer’s formula. I found that this mixture frequently relieved muscular pain and also promoted speedy healing from surgery, sprained ankles, and the like. It also appeared to boost immunity. My colleagues and I at Women to Women (a medical clinic founded more than 15 years ago by Dr. Northrup and several of her colleagues, which is devoted to health care for women, by women) sometimes gave it to each other when we were coming down with a cold or were feeling fatigued. It worked every time.
An astounding number of studies have documented the effectiveness of intravenous magnesium in helping prevent cardiac damage and even death following a hear attack –- roughly half of all sudden deaths from hear attack are the result of spasm in the arteries, not blockage from clots or arrhythmias! And magnesium allows coronary artery muscles (and all other muscles) to relax.
Most of us don’t require intravenous magnesium, of course. We can get all the benefits we need just by making sure that we get enough of it in our diets or through supplements. Here’s what everyone needs to know about getting optimal benefits from this essential (but often overlooked) mineral.
Why We Need Magnesium: Magnesium is essential for the functioning of hundreds of different enzymes in the body, particularly those that produce, transport, store and utilize energy. Magnesium is important for the following metabolic processes:
• Protein synthesis: DNA and RNA in our cells require magnesium for cell growth and development.
• Sparking the electrical signals that must travel throughout the miles of nerves in our bodies (including the impulses for our brain, heart and other organs).
• Normal blood pressure, vascular tone, transmission of nerve-cell signals, and blood flow.
• Functioning of all nerves and muscles.
• Release and binding of adequate amounts of serotonin in the brain. In short, living with sub-optimal levels of magnesium is like trying to operate a machine with the power off.
The Magnesium/Calcium Connection: Though there’s been an enormous amount of media hype about calcium, very few people realize that without its partner, magnesium, calcium doesn’t serve the body nearly as well as it should. In fact, too much calcium can actually impede the magnesium’s uptake and function, creating further imbalance. When it comes to building healthy bones, magnesium is as important as calcium and vitamin D.
Magnesium and calcium are designed to work together. For example, magnesium controls the entry of calcium into each and every cell –- a physiological event that happens every time a nerve cell fires. Without adequate magnesium (which is also a natural calcium-channel blocker), too much calcium gets inside the cell. This can result in muscle cramping, blood-vessel constriction, migraine headaches, and even feelings of anxiety.
Magnesium also keeps calcium dissolved in the blood so that it won’t produce kidney stones. In fact, taking calcium without magnesium for osteoporosis can actually promote kidney stone formation.
Magnesium Deficiency on the Rise: In 1997, the National academy of Sciences found that most Americans are deficient in magnesium. There are a number of reasons for this:
• Food processing depletes magnesium, and the vast majority of Americans eat mostly processed foods. When wheat is refined into white flour, 80 percent of the magnesium in the bran is lost; 98 percent is lost when molasses is refined into sugar. Similarly, magnesium is leached out of vegetables that are boiled in water or frozen. Additives such as aspartame and MSG, as well as alcohol, also deplete magnesium stores.
• Indigestion and antacid use: Insufficient stomach acid impedes magnesium absorption. Unfortunately, a refined-food diet is a potent recipe for indigestion. Antacids –- the number one over the counter drug in the U.S. –- further deplete hydrochloric acid in the stomach.
Farming practices: Magnesium and other minerals have been depleted from much of the soil that we grow today’s produce in.
Medications: Many drugs –- including common diuretics, birth-control pills, insulin, tetracycline and other antibiotics, and cortisone –- cause the body to waste magnesium.
Anxiety and Panic Attacks: Magnesium helps keep adrenal stress hormones under control and maintain normal brain function. in her book The Miracle of Magnesium (Balantine Books, 2003), Dr. Carolyn Dean points out that the rate of depression has gone up every decade since World War II. It’s quite possible that this is related to magnesium depletion.
Asthma: Magnesium helps relax the muscles of the bronchioles in the lungs.
Constipation: Magnesium helps keep bowels regular by maintaining normal bowel-muscle function. Milk of Magnesium as been used for decades to help.
Diabetes: Magnesium helps insulin transport glucose into the cell. Without this, glucose builds up in tissue causing glycemic stress and damage.
Heart Disease: Magnesium deficiency is common in those with heart disease. The mineral is an effective treatment for heart attacks and cardiac arrhythmias.
Hypertension: Without adequate magnesium, blood vessels constrict and blood pressure increases.
Insomnia: Magnesium helps regulate melatonin, a hormone that’s essential for normal sleep cycles.
Nerve Problems: Magnesium helps eliminate peripheral nerve disturbances that can lead to migraines, leg and foot cramps, gastrointestinal cramps, and so one.
Osteoporosis: Without magnesium, calcium may actually contribute to osteoporosis.

2004 Gallup Poll on Magnesium Awareness
Majority of Americans Not Getting Enough Magnesium. Most Not Aware of RDA for Essential Mineral . . . Magnesium is an essential mineral of a healthy diet. It may help to maintain the function of the heart, muscles and nervous system.* However, according to a Gallup poll, four out of five Americans (80%) are not consuming enough magnesium from diet alone. That number may be even higher among those who have certain medical conditions or are taking medications known to deplete magnesium in the body.
Even when including vitamin and mineral supplements together with diet, only about one in three (35%) consume the Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) or better of magnesium (between 310 - 420 mg/day). The vast majority of respondents (86%) were not aware of the daily requirement of magnesium at all.
Magnesium is essential for the functioning of more than 300 enzymes. Proper magnesium levels help maintain normal heart rhythms.* It is also necessary for normal protein synthesis, carbohydrate metabolism, proper muscle function and helps to absorb calcium and potassium.*
"It's clear that most people aren't aware of the important role that magnesium plays in the body. If people are concerned about their magnesium levels, they should make sure to discuss medications and health conditions with their doctor when evaluating their diet and magnesium supplement options," said Barbara Levine, R.D., PhD., Associate Professor of Nutrition in Medicine, Weill Medical College of Cornell University-New York Presbyterian Hospital.
The majority of people (53%) surveyed couldn't name a good source of magnesium, which include 100% bran cereals, avocados, almonds, milk, pumpkin seeds, cashews, cooked spinach, sesame seeds, oatmeal, potatoes (baked, with skin) and soy beans.
The body's stores of magnesium can be depleted by certain illnesses or chronic conditions such as extensive bowel resection, intestinal or biliary fistulas, pancreatic insufficiency, celiac disease, ulcerative colitis and Chron's disease. Certain medications, such as loop/thiazide diuretics (water pills) and digoxin, can also affect magnesium levels. Additionally, poorly-controlled diabetes may be a risk factor for depletion of magnesium stores. High alcohol intake and chronic or excessive vomiting or diarrhea can also deplete magnesium.(2)
Ensuring enough magnesium through diet or supplements is important -- and so is making sure that the mineral is absorbed into the body as intended. Supplements containing magnesium chloride allow the body to absorb more magnesium, compared to products that contain magnesium oxide. Not surprisingly, 86% of the survey respondents didn't know difference between magnesium chloride and oxide.
The Gallup Organization conducted a telephone survey of a nationally representative sample of 1,009 American adults 18 years of age or older. Interviews were conducted between January 6-31, 2004. For the results based on sample size, the margin of error at 95 percent confidence interval is +/- 3 percentage points.

1) The magnesium content of various foods and vitamin supplements was gathered from the Nutritional Data Library of the USDA.
(2) Office of Dietary Supplements National Institutes of Health. Magnesium. Facts About Dietary Supplements.
Key Findings: Americans increasingly understand the necessity of supplementing their diet with both a multi-vitamin and extra amounts of certain vitamins and minerals. However, magnesium is not a mineral that Americans typically think of as important to their health. The awareness level of health conditions with associated vitamin deficiency is also low. General Awareness: 56% of respondents listed Vitamin C among "most important" among vitamins and minerals . . . 86% of men and women did not know the daily requirement of magnesium.
Percentage of respondents who were aware of health conditions associated with vitamin and mineral deficiency:
Heart disease, including high blood pressure: 47%
Diabetes: 32%
Osteoporosis: 71%
Migraine headaches: 29%
Muscle cramps: 62%
Intake of Vitamin and Mineral Supplements: 51% of men and 66% of women take vitamin and mineral supplements daily. 73% of respondents did not know how much magnesium they take daily.
Four out of five (80%) respondents are below the RDA of magnesium from food intake alone. When evaluating food intake plus supplements, more than three out of five (65%) were below the RDA. Responses, though, varied substantially between men and women. 86% of men were below the RDA of magnesium from food intake alone, and 76% were below the RDA with food plus dietary supplement. 76% of women were below the RDA of magnesium from food intake alone, and 55% were below the RDA with food plus dietary supplement.
Intake of Magnesium Supplements Among Patients with Health Conditions -- Percentage of those who were getting the RDA or better of magnesium from food and supplements with the following conditions:
Heart disease - 26% (74% were below the RDA)
Diabetes - 40% (60% were below the RDA)
Osteoporosis - 35% (65% were below the RDA)
Migraine headaches - 42% (58% were below the RDA)
86% of respondents could not tell the difference between magnesium chloride vs. magnesium oxide and the benefits associated with either -- 53% of respondents could not name a good source of magnesium.
Foods which are good sources of magnesium include: 100% bran cereals, avocados, almonds, milk, pumpkin seeds, cashews, cooked spinach, sesame seeds, oatmeal, potatoes and soybeans. Dietary magnesium supplements are also available over-the-counter.

Notes in Newsletter
• The Bath Flakes are very similar to what is termed Nigari, which is a crystalline form of magnesium chloride used in the process of making Tofu. Dr. Norm Shealy sells that sort of product to make a liquid magnesium chloride product. The primary advantage of our Bath Flakes is that it is a higher concentration of magnesium chloride and inherently lighter to ship the same amount of magnesium. The primary disadvantage is that it is really only suitable for putting into a foot bath or a full bath. Now that it is much more receptive to the energies of the charging chambers, it certainly is worthy of more serious consideration. Interestingly, L. and I find it to be a slightly different form of magnesium and very synergistic with the Magnesium Oil. Thus, we always use a bit of the Magnesium Oil and a bit of the Bath Flakes in our baths.
• Many have asked me to address the various uses for the magnesium products of which I am aware. I will start by how we use the products. Certainly, our primary use is to soak in a full bath. We always put some of the Bath Flakes and Magnesium Oil into a hot-to-very hot bath. Occasionally, we will add a bit of the Miracle II Soap and/or the Neutralizer liquid. Because the products are all plentiful at our facility, we probably use more than most people would want or need to. Although we are not always able to find enough time, we try to soak three times a week. The suggested amounts would be in the range of 1-2 ounces of Magnesium Oil, about 1/4 -1/3 cup of Bath Flakes, perhaps a teaspoon of Miracle II Soap (because it is so concentrated) and perhaps an ounce or even two ounces of Miracle II Neutralizer. I should mention that if your home, your time or lifestyle does not make it possible to do a full soak, it is almost as effective to use a foot bath. Add the same amount of the various products, and soak your feet for the same 20-30 minutes. You could easily do a foot bath while watching television or during other pastimes.
• We are announcing a new packaging in the Magnesium product line. . . by popular demand. now We now offer a 160 ounce jar of the Magnesium Bath Flakes that equates to about 10 pounds of Bath Flakes compared to the little 30 ounce jars. More and more people were having great results with the Bath Flakes and were asking for larger, more economical packaging, and this is our answer. When you purchase the larger container of Magnesium Bath Flakes, the cost per ounce drops by 25% compared to the smaller jar. But wait, there is more!! We have also created a Combination package that offers even greater value. You may purchase a gallon of the Magnesium Oil together with the 160 ounce Jar of the Magnesium Bath Flakes, the cost of which is the combined cost of the two individual bulk products.
• Due to regulatory issues, we have been forced to severely curtail the amount of information that we can provide to the membership regarding our Magnesium products.
• During this first week of the New Year, wonderful blessings have come to Global Light Network. First, we received news that The Power Hour radio show on alternative health has chosen to pick up our entire line of magnesium products on their website, and they have invited Dr. Mark Sircus, Dr. Carolyn Dean and me be guests on their radio show during January.
• Magnesium Bath Flakes are used very much like Epsom Salts, which is magnesium sulfate instead of magnesium chloride. On the surface, it would seem that, since Epsom Salts are approved, the Magnesium Bath Flakes should not be a problem. The catch is that Epsom Salts are an over-the-counter (OTC) drug and have been approved as such. That is not the case for our bath flakes. My contention, and I could certainly be wrong, is that Epsom Salts must be classified as an OTC drug because one of the recognized and advertised uses for Epsom Salts involves taking it internally. By contrast, the Bath Flakes are NEVER recommended to be taken orally and, rather, are simply used for a relaxing soak to help the body release the stresses of the day. If it seems like hairs are being split, you are right, and that seems to be a reflection of the times we live in.
Customer Testimonials
Note: We recommend you also read the testimonials on the Magnesium Oil & Gel page. Customers often soak in magnesium baths as part of their overall magnesium protocol.
My Favorite Quiet Time . . .
• Ounce of Miracle II Soap
• Ounce of Miracle II Neutralizer
• 2 ounces of Magnesium Oil or Magnesium Bath Flakes
Light a candle and put on some soothing music and soak for 30 minutes. You might want to pour a gallon of Prill or Cosmic water into the bath to enhance the hydration of the water as well.
This is soooo relaxing and rejuvenating. I do this 3 times a week to for detox and relaxation and also to absorb the magnesium into my system. These products seem to work on all levels. It's sensational! V.A., TX
Morning Bath . . .The Magnesium Bath Flakes are so wonderful! What can I say? I have always enjoyed my morning bath . . . but, now I look forward to it even more! I get a little salty taste in my mouth afterward. I ordered a case and am going to try some of the other products, too, I have my order ready to send. Needless to say, I am very grateful that I found you. I am sharing all the info with everyone I can think of. I love them too much not to. L.N., US
ADHD . . . I wanted to first thank you from the bottom of my heart and soul for the magnesium. I do see a change in Dane when we use it. I have been spreading the word to everyone who will hear me. His doctor said he really did not know much on the subject. Can you believe that?
The best change that I have seen is that if Dane soaks in a tub before bed time he sleeps about 75% better. That is a good thing, because he has always had a problem with sleep. He is medicated to help him sleep but even then, he does not rest well, talking in his sleep, flipping and flopping all night long, but after a soak that is reduced greatly.
He tells me that he loves his magnesium. He insists that he feels calmer inside, and that is a good sign to me. I think you are on to something with this product. This summer when Dane swims in his kiddie pool, I am going to put some magnesium in the pool water, and then he will get as much as he needs. I think if he is in and out of the pool all summer, he will be absorbing more and more each time.
It seems like the bath flakes are stronger, because they seem to have the bigger effect. It just doesn’t work as well if you aren’t consistent. I can't thank you enough. B.S., KY
Happy . . . I continue to be very happy with the Magnesium Oil and feel that the flakes are going to just add to my wellbeing. What a great deal you are offering for buying both the gallon of oil and the large size of the flakes. Looking forward to using the Energy Stones as well. Blessings, N.M.
Tiredness, Hormone Imbalances and Fibromyalgia . . . I'm taking a soaking bath about every couple of days in the Magnesium Oil and Bath Flakes. I like to stay in longer than the recommended 30 minutes. If I stay a little more than 1/2 hour, I feel so clean. I don't feel like I need to use soap. I'm so relaxed, and I can go to sleep at night, and I feel so much better. If I bathe in the morning, I just feel so good all day long. I have reason to believe that it is counteracting some bad things (I won't get in to it here). I had felt tiredness, hormone imbalances and fibromyalgia, but now I feel so much better. I just love the magnesium bath and I'm telling everyone about it. Now they all want to order. My husband is also feeling the difference. I don't want to be without it! A.L., AZ
Magnum Bath and Debilitating Muscle Spasms . . . Thanking you for your prompt reply -- please tell Mr. (Daniel) Reid that he has helped me more than any other person on earth regarding the muscle spasms in my left leg which had left me bound to a wheelchair for most months of the year. I was given the magnum water and the bath sachets and started taking the water and a bath daily. Within 8 days I was walking again, and my body was detoxifying at a great rate. I was being sent the products from a family member in Bali who had attended a spa there. I can't thank him enough for his work. For the first time in 9 years I am doing gentle exercise again to rebuild the muscles. I am able to do this without any cramping at all. I am also no longer depressed, my digestion is fantastic, and I can tell I have dropped some weight. My fluid retention is nearly gone, and I feel lighter all around. Thank you and I will be in touch with a distributor to continue on with my mission. A.Z., AUS
Editor's Note: Daniel Reid is the author of several books, most notably, The Tao of Detox, which features our Magnesium Magnum Bath Kit.
Anxiety and Panic Attacks . . . I have a client with extremely intense anxiety issues and paranoia, with a history of panic attacks for many years. He's been on meds periodically. After some weeks of daily 45 minute-long soaks with both the Magnesium Oil Bath Flakes, there has been a remarkable change. He now has almost no anxiety. His paranoia is gone. He has not had anymore panic attacks. He attributes this to his therapy, but I've explained that without these wonderful products, he wouldn't see this type of alleviation of symptoms for at least six months. I am very pleased with his progress. R.K., US
Sister Jane’s Testimonials . . . Finally, it is obvious that I have some of the same inclinations which have led to dad's restless leg syndrome, and the other nerve-related problems in my legs, etc. The Magnesium soaks definitely help relieve those problems. When I don't take time for them, I have problems relaxing the legs enough to go to sleep easily (that means it takes me 20 minutes instead of 2-3!). I also find that the soaks help relax muscles and tendons after my free weight and/or aerobic workouts at the gym. Jane W., LA
